I want to start off by giving a quick rundown of what June has been like for us:
- Phase 1–We are moving into the pop-up camper while the home renovation gets going, meaning that we need to make space in the backyard to put this thing! This includes:
- Digging out and paving a staging area
- Setting up hookups for all things electric, sewer, water
- Planning our lives around moving into the pop-up!
- Phase 2–We are no longer moving into the pop-up! Lovely neighbors have offered up their home! This means:
- Finding a place to store the pop-up
- Moving our lives into a neighbor’s home that needs house sitting
- Staying involved in the home renovation without physically being there all days
- Phase 3–Oh yeah, we are both still CRAZY busy with new business ventures!
Honestly, writing about this last month makes my head spin just a little bit, both from being overwhelmed at times and excitement! Throughout this last month, we have gone through a few planning shifts. If you are reading this, you may know that we have been planning a home renovation for a while. We started with the pool, and luckily that got done before COVID lockdowns. The remaining renovation had to be pushed back until July, so we went back into planning mode during the springtime. We planned and planned, and now it is almost July but our plans still change every week.
We have spent years daydreaming about the life we want to create… where we want to live, what our lifestyle will be like, who we want to help, and why this area matters. Our focus is self-serving (as all passion projects should be) in that we want to make our home a sanctuary for the purpose of creating heart to heart connections with the people we love. That is what we envision with the home renovation, and as I look around I realize our intentions are coming to fruition. Our home will truly be a place of gathering, meditation, calmness, and connection–starting from the open concept kitchen, and all the way to the retreat room and backyard garden. A great example of the kind of community we want to foster has already been shown to us at a recent neighborhood gathering!
This whole time, our plan during the home renovation was to move our pop-up camper into the backyard, and make full use of the camper and the backyard while the home was being worked on. There were some hiccups along the way (like our fence not being wide enough to get the camper through), but we were pushing with that plan. Bekah had already jackhammered a driveway for us, dug up a massive tree in the way and we were making good progress. Then one of our neighborhood gatherings was scheduled a few weeks ago, and we decided to go and let everyone know that we had this renovation planned! At this gathering, one of our neighbors heard about our plans to live in the camper during the renovation, and let us know that they have been searching for a house sitter for weeks now! They are traveling for the next 3 months, and need someone to watch their home for the time being. So, our amazing neighbors were telling me that they were not only helping us out, but it was also a huge help to them? And we would be a block away from our home this whole time? WOW!
Our plans quickly changed, we parked the camper in its new alcove at the side of the house and are now going to be living in our neighbor’s beautiful guest house for the next 3 months. THANK YOU COMMUNITY! This is why I love where we live, and want to create a place for the community to gather.
Why we do this
All of our planning for the renovation is focused on mother nature (with water features, wildlife, a garden, and animals) to attract people who need a respite from running a business and want to connect. We love spending time with our friends and notice how much we enjoy sharing our recent developments. We all advance when we are open to sharing new perspectives. We support each other, cheer for each other, and help each other out. We run several businesses at home, and understand the need for a sanctuary. That is what our home is to us, our sanctuary. We want to be able to share this sanctuary, and here is your invitation. Let me know if you want to join our sanctuary updates.Follow along here!
